Summary:
The Auxiliary Public Safety Officer position exists to provide resources to the university Department of Public Safety when the need for additional trained personnel is determined necessary to provide safety and security standards to the university community.
Auxiliary officers are temporary staff members, with no benefits, and are subject to call-in for emergencies and special events such as Commencement weekend.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :
1.
Responsible for continuous patrol of the University campus, initial response to all campus emergencies, and the enforcement of University rules and regulations.
2.
Administrative responsibilities, which encompass the response, investigation and documentation of all emergencies and calls for service.
3.
Developing relationships and partnerships with faculty, staff, students, campus visitors and local agencies and community persons.
4.
Shift work and/or special events requiring traffic and pedestrian management.
5.
Responsible to successfully fulfill mandatory training sessions and objectives.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
1.

Valid, Illinois State driver's license.
3.
Clear background check.
4.
Demonstrate and possess sufficient strength and agility necessary to perform the duties of a Public Safety Officer.
5.
Demonstrated proficiency in cross-cultural awareness, communication and interpersonal skills.
6.
Demonstrated proficiency in problem solving skills with experience of dealing sensitively with confidential campus matters.
7.
Computer literacy with experience in word-processing, spreadsheets and/or databases.
8.
Demonstrated abilities in effective teamwork and achievement in a service-oriented environment.
9.
Excellent organizational and prioritizing skills.
10.
Expected to practice a lifestyle, which is in harmony with the values of the University and sponsoring denomination, the Church of the Nazarene.
EDUCATION Required:
High School Diploma or GED.
Preferred:
Associates and/or Bachelor's degree.
Experience within an educational environment.
Experience within the Public Safety field.
WORK ENVIRONMENT Position located on the campus in Bourbonnais.
Work takes place both indoors and outdoors.
