Summary:
The department secretary is responsible for scheduling & registration of outpatients, entering patient charges, maintaining patient records, insurance verification, and departmental statistical records.
The secretary types daily schedules and departmental correspondence as well as handling all incoming telephone communications.
E xperience/Education Requirements:
H igh School diploma or GED required within 6 months of hire.
Typing a minimum of 30-45 words per minute Math skill (calculation) and computer skills.
License or Certification Requirements:

Responsibilities:
Collects data for statistical reports.
Ensures all patient charges are entered appropriately Maintains outpatient medical records Ordering and inventory of equipment and supplies Keeps minutes of departmental meetings Schedules outpatient appointments.
Coordinates daily schedules for therapists Enters/audits patient charges Makes photocopies, faxes department correspondence, participates in departmental promotional activities and the development of departmental policies and procedures.
Serves as an integral team member in the treatment of patients in working all programmatic and clinical areas as indicated by census and departmental need Is able to accurately register outpatients and verify insurance benefits.
Maintains current knowledge of patient registration procedures.
Effectively communicates with patients, physicians, therapists and family members.
Participates in and supports Quality Improvement efforts.
